「僕らは良識ぶれる」——ラインデルス、サウジ移籍の金の本音を語る

Tijjani Reijnders left Manchester City for Saudi Arabia this summer, and the move split opinion in an instant.

今夏、タイアニ・ラインデルスはマンチェスター・シティを離れてサウジアラビアへ移籍し、その決断は瞬く間に賛否を巻き起こした。

Fans wondered whether the Dutch midfielder was chasing a new challenge, or simply chasing money.

このオランダ代表MFは新たな挑戦を求めたのか、それとも単にお金を追いかけたのか——ファンの間で疑問が広がった。

When Dutch broadcaster NOS put the question to him directly, Reijnders did not dodge it.

オランダの放送局NOSがその点を直接尋ねると、ラインデルスは質問を避けなかった。

"There were other options, but they did not come through or they stalled over the asking price," Reijnders said.

"In the end, I started to think: do I want to stay another season at Man City without being completely happy, or do I choose to take on a new adventure?

That was when I spoke with Al-Qadsiah and with the coach.

But the interview did not stop there.

"No, but you can't deny that either," he replied.

"Money definitely plays a part in it.

After my football career ends, I don't want to work again.

I didn't have to after leaving Manchester City anyway, but now I can also help future generations of my family."

シティを出た時点でそもそも働く必要はなかったけど、今は家族の未来の世代まで支えることができる」

"I won't lie about it, if my grandchildren can live off this, then why shouldn't I?"

「嘘をつくつもりはない。もし僕の孫がこのお金で生きていけるなら、なぜダメなんだ？」

He closed with a message for the doubters.

最後に彼は、懐疑派へ向けた一言を残した。

"I think many people believe that a player's career ends by moving to Saudi Arabia, but that's not true."
